David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, the first-time showrunners who introduced “Recreation of Thrones” to life on HBO have reportedly walked away from their cope with Disney’s Lucasfilm to launch a “Star Wars” characteristic movie trilogy in 2022.

On Monday, Deadline reported that the duo had parted ways with Lucasfilm and would not be writing or producing what would have been the primary new movies in a post-Skywalker period. The pair cited their recent $200 million deal with Netflix as a motive they won’t in a position to proceed the Star Wars mission.

“We love Star Wars,” Benioff and Weiss stated in a joint assertion to Deadline. “When George Lucas constructed it, he constructed us too. Getting to speak about Star Wars with him and the present Star Wars group was the joys of a lifetime, and we’ll at all times be indebted to the saga that modified every little thing.”

That is the second project to fall to wayside because of Benioff and Weiss’ contract with Netflix. HBO’s “Accomplice,” which might have depicted an alternate universe during which the Confederacy efficiently seceded from the Union, has reportedly been shelved after the showrunners signed with Netflix.
